Advantage flea treatment is a product of Bayer Healthcare, Animal Health Division. It is available in two main types: Advantage flea treatment for dogs and Advantage flea treatment for cats. Furthermore, the Advantage flea treatment for dogs comes in four dosage sizes varying on the dog’s weight:  Puppies or dogs 10 pounds and under, dogs 11 to 20 pounds, dogs 21 to 55 pounds, and dogs over 55 pounds. On the other hand, Advantage flea treatment for cats are offered in two dosage sizes only, also according to the cat’s weight:  Kittens or cats nine pounds and under, and cats over nine pounds. Advantage Once-A-Month Topical Flea Treatment for Cats

This once-a-month topical flea treatment for cats obliterates fleas sooner than they can lay eggs and flea larvae sooner than they can hatch. It inhibits re-infestation for up to a month, but with six applications included in the pack, it can keep your cats protected for six months. It can safely be given for cats eight weeks or older and weighing nine to 18 pounds.

Some pet owners who have used Advantage flea treatment for cats, however, complained that it works the first few months, but eventually loses its efficacy after. Their veterinarians advised that the cats may be developing resistance to the Advantage flea treatment.

Advantage for Dogs One to 10 Pounds EPA USA Product – Four Months

This over-the-counter  Advantage flea treatment is similar to the second product mentioned but is a milder version as it is safe to be given to puppies as young as seven weeks old and to pregnant and nursing dogs. It does not require a veterinarian’s prescription and it is guaranteed US EPA approved.
